How do I sign up for Medicare?

One of the first questions I get from folks becoming eligible for Medicare is: How do I sign up for Medicare?  First of all, not everyone needs to sign up.  If you’ve already started receiving your social security, you don’t have to. You’ll automatically be enrolled in Medicare Part A and B when you turn 65.

You’ll automatically be enrolled in Medicare Part A and B when you turn 65. If you haven’t started your social security or don’t plan to, signing up for Medicare is easy.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. You can Call Social Security at 800-772-1213. They’ll walk you through the entire process. Here’s a tip, call early in the morning and the wait times are less.
  2. You can sign up online at www.ssa.gov
  3. You can visit your local Social Security office. Check with your local office to verify when they are taking in person appointments.

It usually takes about 3 weeks after you apply for you to receive your Medicare card.

If you have additional questions or need immediate assistance, message us and request a one-on-one consultation with one of our licensed agents. It’s always free and there’s no obligation.
